Drain Cleaning in Wilkes-Barre

From Routine Clogs to In-House Sewer Repair

We clear routine fixture clogs and investigate recurring drainage trouble that may originate deeper in the sewer system. At American Rooter, we provide drain cleaning for Wilkes-Barre homeowners and select commercial properties. Our family-owned, locally operated company has a 4.9 rating across more than 600 Google reviews.

A slow drain may require straightforward clearing. Repeated backups can indicate buildup, intrusive roots, or damage in a main sewer line. We offer same-day drain cleaning when scheduling allows, providing a responsive option when wastewater isn’t moving as it should.

When a Clog Points to Sewer Line Damage

Drain cleaning sometimes reveals a problem that clearing alone can’t correct. We keep plumbing, sewer, and excavation work in-house. Our crew carries each project from camera inspection through backfill using our own equipment.

As a NuFlow Certified Contractor, we install no-dig pipe lining that restores qualifying damaged sewer lines from the inside without removing lawns, driveways, or landscaping. When a pipe’s condition or configuration makes trenchless repair unworkable, we can excavate and replace the main sewer line.

Signs Wilkes-Barre Drains Need Cleaning

A developing blockage often changes how a drain behaves before flow stops completely. Watch for these warning signs:

Water drains more slowly than usual.
Drains make gurgling sounds.
Bad smells come from drain openings.
The same fixture backs up frequently.
Water stands in a basement floor drain.

Is One Fixture Clogged or Are Several Backing Up?

A problem limited to one sink, tub, toilet, or floor drain usually indicates a blockage in the fixture drain or a nearby branch line. Trouble affecting multiple fixtures at once can point to the main sewer line. The affected fixtures, backup pattern, and inspection findings help us locate the obstruction.

What Wilkes-Barre Public Main Work Can Tell You

Pennsylvania American Water has replaced aging public water mains in Wilkes-Barre, including cast iron lines dating to the 1900s. That work provides context for public underground infrastructure, but it doesn’t establish the age or condition of a property’s private drain or sewer line. A video camera inspection is needed to assess the private line for buildup, root intrusion, cracks, sags, or a collapsed section.

How We Diagnose & Clear Clogged Drains

The clearing method depends on the blockage’s location, the material obstructing the line, and the pipe’s condition. We assess the drainage symptoms and select equipment suited to the obstruction. If those symptoms suggest a deeper problem, we can inspect the pipe before recommending further cleaning or repair.

Our drain cleaning equipment and methods include:

Hand Augers: We use hand augers for clogs in individual plumbing fixtures.
Motorized Drain Snakes: We use powered snakes and cable machines to clear blockages within drain lines.
Hydro Jetting: We use high-pressure water to remove grease and accumulated buildup from pipe walls.
Root Cutting Equipment: We cut intrusive tree roots that have entered sewer lines and restricted flow.
Enzyme-Based Treatments: We offer enzyme-based treatments as part of our drain cleaning service.

Camera Findings Guide Sewer Repair Decisions

When recurring backups or widespread drainage trouble indicate a possible sewer line problem, we use video camera inspections to examine the pipe’s interior. The camera can locate cracks, sags, root intrusions, and collapsed sections. These findings distinguish a removable obstruction from structural damage that may require pipe lining or excavation.

If excavation is required, our crew contains the work zone while completing the underground repair. We clean up excavation debris when the project is complete.
